Sustainability Commitments from the Annual Conference and Conference Partners

ALA works with several meeting and conference partners to help make the 2022 ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition possible. These partners have established commitments to sustainability that help ensure a more sustainable meeting experience.
The Walter E. Washington Convention Center
The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is a leader in environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives, which include a color-coded recycling program, water efficiency, green product purchasing and more. The building boasts a long list of energy-reducing features, from low-emission glass to computerized HVAC systems. The center is Metro accessible (Green and Yellow lines) with a dedicated Mt. Vernon-7th St-Convention Center stop and immediately walkable to Shaw's booming restaurant scene and downtown's museums and nightlife, as well as the National Mall. Learn more about the Walter E. Aramark at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center
The convention center's food service provider is Aramark. Aramark is committed to making a positive impact on the planet. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is their top priority and something we can impact in all of our businesses, through the foods we serve to the vehicles we drive. GES (Event Signage and Decoration)
GES promotes a higher level of social responsibility with green programs and initiatives both in-house and with their facility recycling partnerships at show sites. And they are considered an industry thought-leader in green events and exhibitions. Kushner & Associates (Shuttle Service)
Shuttles are the most eco-friendly option for point-to-point transportation versus ride share, resulting in lower CO2 emissions and lowering traffic congestion. Kushner & Associates designs the most efficient transportation systems possible utilizing the fewest number of motorcoaches traveling the shortest distances possible. In addition to training drivers to reduce idling and the use of A/C whenever feasible and practical to decrease fuel consumption, Kushner participates in a carbon-offset program to mitigate the shuttle’s carbon footprint.
